Royal Shrewsbury Hospital - New Linear Accelerator (LINAC) Bunker

R.D. Jukes & Co. Ltd. were engaged to deliver the electrical and associated services package to a new Linear Accelerator (LINAC) Bunker at Royal Shrewsbury Hospital.

The works comprised of a steel frame and concrete extension to the existing Radiotherapy department.

The new bunker houses a state-of-the-art Linear Accelerator machine which delivers high-energy X-rays or electrons precisely to a tumour. This works in conjunction with DoseRT camera technology to refine the accuracy of radiation treatment, which reduces the effects on nearby healthy tissue.

Our site engineering teams worked closely with Trust stakeholders to deliver essential elements of our works within a live hospital environment. This included the systematic installation of electrical circuitry and associated containment systems throughout accommodated staff and patient spaces.

The scope of works for the electrical and associated services comprised of the supply, installation, testing, commissioning, and certification of the following disciplines:-

• Modification of existing Low Voltage Switchgear
• Sub-mains Cabling to LV Distribution equipment and Linear Accelerator
• New LV Distribution Equipment with Energy Metering to BS EN 62053
• Cable support and Containment systems
• Main earthing Terminal and associated equipotential earth bonds
• Medical Earthing systems
• General and Emergency Lighting systems
• Feature Lighting
• Utility Power systems
• Nurse Call systems
• Structured Cabling systems for Data and Voice
• CCTV systems
• Door Access Control systems
• Fire Detection and Alarm
• Fire and Smoke Damper controls
• Testing, commissioning, labelling and certification
• Operation and Maintenance Manuals and associated As Fitted documentation.

We collaborated with the Principle Contractor, design engineers, Trust staff and other stakeholders to deliver this groundbreaking project on behalf of our valued Client.
